Choose one loader
Use the current files and instructions from the original Unlimited page on Nexus Mods ↗ (opens in a new tab). As checked October 19, its documented release is 0.4.4.
| Your setup | Documented choice |
|---|---|
| Already using MelonLoader | MelonLoader 0.7.3 and the matching Unlimited archive. |
| Using BepInEx | BepInEx 6 IL2CPP x64, bleeding-edge build 788; not BepInEx 5. |
| Native Linux | Not supported by this mod's instructions; the author directs Linux/Deck players to the Windows build through Proton. |
Do not install both loaders as an attempt to make a mismatched archive work. The standalone MelonLoader port is an older branch, not evidence that any arbitrary combination is compatible. [1] [2]
Install on every player's machine
- Close the game and open its folder through Steam → Manage → Browse local files.
- Install the loader version linked by the mod author. Start the game once, reach the menu, then quit.
- Extract the archive matching that loader. The documented destination is
Mods/OverTheHillUnlimited.MelonLoader.dllfor MelonLoader, orBepInEx/plugins/OverTheHillUnlimited/OverTheHillUnlimited.dllfor BepInEx. - Start the game. Select Unlimited mod servers in the server browser; the host can then choose a maximum above four.
The linked author page contains the loader downloads and Proton launch options. Follow its current platform branch before copying a DLL path from another guide. These steps are attributed instructions, not an installation we have tested. [1]

If the bigger room does not appear
The 0.4.4 notes say the October 17 game update hid rooms above four from older clients' server lists. Updating only the host does not update the other players' browsers. Check the mod version on each machine and confirm everyone is viewing the same server mode. [1]
Return to an ordinary four-player session
Untick Unlimited mod servers to view normal rooms. If you want to remove the mod, close the game and follow the uninstall section for your loader; clear the related Proton launch override as well if you added one. Preserve a note of what you changed so you can reverse the right branch. [1]
We have not run a multiplayer compatibility test. If a new build changes the author's tested range, recheck its release notes before promising a large session to friends.
