Choose for the next drive
Pick the problem you need to solve. These are editorial choices from the recorded vehicle characteristics and unlock areas, checked October 19. We have not timed the cars or tested rollover limits.
Start with the car you already have.
The Protector and The Trailrat are starting choices. The Trail Burner is an early alternative from Windy Joe Trail.
Choose a later unlock only when its area is available to you.
Find The Trail Burner in the unlock table →What you gain, and what you give up
| Your trip | Candidate | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Starting out | The Protector or The Trailrat | Already available. Learn the route before spending toward another similar lightweight car. |
| Early mixed exploration | The Trail Burner | A Wagon option available from Windy Joe Trail in Emerald Lake. |
| Tight positioning | Das Wombat | A lightweight option with a useful wheel-size difference; its Algeria unlock makes it a later choice. |
| Large obstacles | Das Mammoth or The Marshal | The Expedition class favors grip and suspension, with less steering angle than the lightweight group. |
Vehicle roles follow the database and ninewiki's published comparison. The latter combines DB numbers with the author's stated Canada/initial-car experience; it does not establish a full-game head-to-head driving test. [1] [3] [2]

Choose between available cars first
The Ding, Protector and Trailrat are already in the starting inventory. Before changing cars to solve a climb, distinguish wheelspin from getting hung up, losing a usable winch point, or carrying too little recovery equipment. A new vehicle body will not answer all four problems. [3]
Our order is: identify the obstacle, compare a suitable car you already have, then decide whether an upgrade or a new unlock addresses that obstacle more directly. This avoids treating the furthest-away vehicle as a compulsory first purchase.
Do not distribute every Pebble at once
Work on the vehicle you expect to use for your next objective. If you need another tool, consider capacity; if traction is the recurring problem, consider tyres. The upgrade page gives a symptom-based spending order and separates the source reports from our recommendations. [4]
We do not rank every car from S to D. The available material leaves out handling factors such as practical rollover behavior, and a higher torque figure alone is not a measured success rate. [2]
